Classification and team context: statewide production is weighted because identical numbers are generally harder to produce against the depth of higher classifications. Team context uses 50% record, 30% live opponent-record SOS and 20% quality wins. Strong schedules and quality wins can add more value than a weak schedule can remove. SOS below the 40th percentile receives a gradual deduction, capped at 5% for MVP and All-Utah comparisons; average schedules are neutral. A defeated opponent's current record and State Top 25 tier update that context retroactively.

Projection note: this automated in-season projection uses reported stats plus limited record, live-SOS and quality-win context. Wins become more valuable if those opponents improve or enter the State Top 25. Only genuinely weak SOS is penalized, and that deduction is intentionally smaller than the strongest positive schedule/team-context boost. Offensive linemen and other positions with little box-score data are not auto-selected fairly, so final Rural Utah Sports All-Utah teams should add those positions through manual review. Missing school stats are never estimated.
